Covalence Graduate -- Eric Hubbard

What was your background before Covalence?

My career background before the Covalence was in the field of advertising. After graduating from The University of Alabama with a major in advertising, I was working at an advertising agency in Tuscaloosa as a Graphic/Web Designer. It was a beneficial experience because I got to really understand what it was like to have a full-time job in a deadline-oriented environment. I was grateful for the opportunity, but I knew it was not something I wanted to do in the long-run.

What made you decide to enroll in Covalence?

Before I even knew about the Covalence, I was taking courses online and trying to learn whatever I could about front-end development. The little coding I did, I loved. I came across the Covalence on LinkedIn and I was immediately intrigued. I knew it was an opportunity that I had to take to really learn what was needed to become a developer.

What was your favorite thing about the program?

Having lunch brought to me every day was hands down my favorite thing about the program. All jokes aside, my favorite part was completing the labs that were given to us and seeing ‘real life’ web projects come to life. The rewarding feeling I got after completing each lab gave me the motivation I needed to keep going through the course.

What are you doing now?

I am currently interning as a Web Developer at TheraNest, a company in the Innovation Depot. I love everything about TheraNest and I hope it is somewhere I can grow and work for a long time.

What is your advice to individuals interested in taking the course?

Don’t be intimidated by the coding world. Yes, it’s very challenging and will test your limits, but the rewards are endless. The Covalence gives you all the resources and knowledge you need to get started as a Web Developer, so don’t feel overwhelmed. If it’s something you really want to do, then do it!
